Gary Jessop
Bio
I’m a qualified counsellor, integrative therapist, and hypnotherapist based in Brighton and Hove. I offer in-person sessions at The Float Spa in Hove, as well as online, phone, and Walk and Talk sessions. I work with both men and women aged 18+, providing a supportive and non-judgmental space where you can talk at your own pace.
I understand that reaching out for therapy, or even attending a first session, can feel daunting. That’s why I offer a free initial call, giving you the chance to ask any questions and choose how you’d like to begin.
As a psychotherapeutic and integrative counsellor, I draw from a range of approaches tailored to your individual needs. I don’t believe in labelling or rushing to diagnose. Instead, I focus on who you are and what matters most to you. Whether you’re navigating stress, anxiety, grief, relationship challenges, burnout, depression, we work together in a way that feels safe and manageable.
Before retraining as a therapist, I spent over 20 years in senior roles within the global financial markets, a high-pressure environment that gave me first-hand insight into the toll stress can take on both professional and personal wellbeing. A turning point came when I took a sabbatical to join the crew of a 68-foot yacht to circumnavigate in the Clipper Round the World Race , a sailing race that packed with emotions. That life-changing journey taught me valuable lessons in resilience, teamwork, and reflection, insights I continue to draw on in my life and practice today.
Alongside my one-to-one work, I also support companies and organisations by offering staff wellbeing sessions tailored to their needs. This might be a regular day each week or month, depending on what works best, sometimes HR departments need support too. I’m also the founder of The Men’s Compass Room — a monthly support group offering men a safe, unfiltered space to connect and be heard.
I’ve volunteered with Cruse Bereavement Support, gaining valuable experience as a bereavement counsellor. I now work with clients navigating all kinds of loss — not just bereavement, but also the loss of identity, purpose, or direction. Having experienced anxiety, stress, loss and the challenges of change myself, I bring empathy, insight, and a human understanding that helps to enrich my clinical training.
My aim is simple: to offer a space where you can feel heard, not alone, and gently begin to move forward, in your own way and in your own time.

I offer a tailor-made, confidential and flexible service which can be in-person (close to financial centres on specific days) or via video or phone, or a combination of all. As senior professionals are often out of the office on business trips or working abroad, my aim is to be available by whichever means best suits the individual seeking my advice and support. Some of my clients also find it beneficial to walk and talk, which can also be arranged. My practice is based on the south coast, where a walk by the sea can further help to reduce stress levels.
Whichever your preferred method of contact, I provide a safe, empathetic space, encouraging open and honest dialogue; a space in which you can freely and openly express and raise any issues that are affecting your work and your personal relationships.
Wellbeing and stress management are key contributors to improved professional performance, client relationships (internal and external) and business continuity. The global pandemic has only added to the causes and levels of stress placed on those working in finance and other professions, so now is the time to invest in targeted support.
Early assistance and intervention is my personal recommendation, from both business and individual perspectives. In essence, techniques which enable and produce improved mental clarity and wellbeing have proven universal benefits.
My professional practice is fully insured.
In Person

The session is set in a confidential environment in a physical location where we can banish the distractions of everyday life and focus on your mental wellbeing.
Online

Online counselling sessions allow you to work from anywhere. We can’t control your environment, so it is up to you to make sure you are in a place you can talk freely, and express yourself safely.
Telephone

You may prefer working with us by phone – the choice is totally yours. If you are unable to make it to a face-to-face or computer session then you can have uninterrupted support over the phone.
Walk & Talk

We take our in-person sessions outside into the fresh air where we can get closer to nature and talk as we walk.
